Puno Crucero pass 15500 10 vicunas May 24 Lake sharp switchback Lake rise. 6 vicunas Camp to forest switchback, 1 1/2 miles. Camp to summit, 2 1/2 m. 14400 Camp Lake Limbani stone hut corral pondy Ghuallatos Trans Hear In mid-afternoon drove to summit & set 30 traps in rocks & Attages mild grass. Shot 2 [illegible] ; allowed approach to 20 ft; when we shot, other remained on ground 20 ft. from it. Saw groups 6, 5, 5, & 11 vicunas on way to summit. Sunset 4:30. May 26, 1951. The 30 nearly snap traps held nothing. Of 29 set on summit, only 2 holding mice were 2 Schuyler's (eisted with meat (all others no meat). Saw usual several groups of vicunas in basin on east side of pass. Returned to camp & prepared specimens. Set 30 traps in rocks & grass near green Lake at switchback. Clear all day. #5 W of Mound train to 200 yds. May 27, 1951. Min. temp. -9°C. Last night. Took up close string of 30 traps; one large or Phyllotis caught (M.K. extory). The 31 traps near green lake held one of same kind phyllotis (21064). The 29 traps at summit of road held 2 Alodon jelskii. One bird in the 3' string; so 4 mice caught in 90 traps. Counted 37 vicunas in basin to see west of road above camp. Saw pair of rufous breasted Attages [illegible] at summit. The white babbled tinamou - Thinocorus Dashed about were common - about 15 flushed from green area at summit. Shot a gray bird which walked on ground
