C. Koford Journal May 14, 1951 Hcda. Calacala, Dpto. Pono, Per v: 13000 ft. Young turinoan shot yesterday had 20 beetles, some still alive, in crop, tho beetles similar to those found in previous large tinoano & sand. The 12 new traps held 2 of the large brown Phyllostis (darwini) and min. of small P. 25 on rocky hill 4/2 mile E. fromer held 1 min. Alakada bolivianus (11 gm. 07) and 1 Phylletis. 30 traps in garden held 1 of large brown Phyllostis + 3 of small brown P. Dra. Parets showed me 2 nests of a mostly black (+ yellow) linnet; seized finish under the eaves of the house; both nests had 3 half-feathered young. A turkey vulture was eating at discarded shunk carcass at 1:30 p.m. The discarded large brown Phyllostis (darwini?) consisted of σ, 48 gms., tot. L. 245, test 11x8; and φ, 54 gms., tot. L. 265, nipples 3 mm., no emb.; Lefting. Discarded 4 of smaller Phyllostis (coridae?), σ, 29 gms., tot. L. 218, testis abdominal, 3x5 mm.; φ min., 19 gms., tot. length 185; φ, 26 gms., emb. 3R, 1L. horn uterine, C-R 10 mm.; φ, 26 gms., tot. length 185; emb. 1R, 2L. horn, C-R .5 mm. To Dr. Ayaviri May 15, 1951. Drew to Juliaca, leaving jeep at Calacala. Saw many glossy ibis in marshy area and several geese in water. At Juliaca family got second tifus examination shot. Lunched with Dr. & Dra. Duffie. Then drove toward Chiguilambilla. Camped some mile NW of Ayaviri near train tracks. To La Raya & Ayaviri May 14, 1951. Calm frosty cold night. We drove on to Chigui- lambilla where the Ministerio de Agricultura for a Granja Modelo. No winter or alpacas there, only sheep & cattle, so we drove on to La Raya (about 36 miles more over rough road) where a branch of the Granja located. There saw fenced pasture with 40+ vicunas + 100+ white alpacas. Only
