C. Koford 61 Journal May 4, 1951 To Hda. Pairumani, Dto. Peno, Peri down into another canyon where stream drained opposite from Cacachera (crossed continental divide) and came to a mine, 1.1 miles beyond summit, at elev. 15450 ft. Mine was of zinc. Talked with 3 men. They said no lots. I couldn't remember long name of mine & river long enough to write them down. We left mine & drove to Cacachera (elev. 15100 this time), left there 12:30 p.m. Light snow commenced. [illegible] Continued on down to Santa Rosa, Mayocruz, & Pairi- mani. Took about 4 1/2 hrs. from Cacachera to Pariumani including a few stops & no hurry. Some rain at night. Tutupasa road was 13 miles from Cacachera. Pariumani elev. was 12920 (-950 on departure, +880 next a.m., with barometer setting 30.06). Mayocruz about 21 miles from Junin; Tutupasa & the Cacachera roads. The plain around Lake Zoris cota, & Pato Grande, most interesting area we have en- countered & possible site for future work. Probably could get there with trails - 2 narrow sided spots & one sharp steep turn above Santa Rosa. May 5, 1951. To Ilave, Dto. Peno Peri. Overcast; occasional sprinkle. Snow on ground at about 13500' level. Put up Phyllotus & tinamou, packed some specimens, & drove to Ilave. Picked up mail & groceries. Camped by the river near bridge. Ilave prices same or different than Puno - 3/11 for 1 lb. can Kalm; 25c for canned milk (Delia). Today about 5 miles toward Ilave from Pairumani flushed about 20 flickers from grass flat field near road with car. May 3 flushed similar.
