-- Koford 60 Journal May 3, 1951 Nr. Lgo. Loriscota, Dpto. Puno, Peru. rough compared to good road on plain. Crossed one stream, ascended, & descended to another stream (5 mile from start of road). Camped there at 15300'. Cold calm night. Mary + d of 3 kids slept in 2 man mountain tent. May 4, 1951. Sunrise hit us at 6:30 a.m. Before that heard several trunous (?) calling on hillsides - chow-chow- chow- chow- etc., or notes la-sol-la-sol, each note slurring down. The trunous also made a fluttering sound reminiscent of Mt. Quail. Flushed 2 bunches 6+ rocjas. Saw bullfrog sized tadpole in clear stream 6' wide. Drove on toward Cocaclara. 5-6 miles on, road being rough but not climbing, saw 3 adult condors soaring down gentle canyon. About 3 miles further & crossed 15' wide clear river of gentle slope, the place being Cocaclara. High rock peaks close by on right side, where O. Pearson studied in 1946. Elev. here 15200 by altimeter. Continued & up on past mines in barren & area to a summit, about +10-7 mile from camp + 16.1/4 miles from turnoff from Tututpaca road. Elev. 15700. Saw one band. 16 vicunas & another of 43. Shot one of a pair of toroconcas on road (5/1028). The other stayed on ground after first shot & allowd approach to 50', then flew, wings very straight out & vibrating through small one, squealsing. We drove
