C. Koford 59 Journal May 3, 1951. Nr. Lake Loriscota, Dpto, Puno, Peru plateau 10.6 miles from S.R. Saw Lago Luscota in the distance on same level. About 6 mile further we were near the lake shore and saw that it was bordered by about 4000 flamingoes; ducks, starlize, & a few black + white geese also present. Herds alpacas + llamas. Saw bands vicunas many times. Saw tracks of llcas alongside road near lake. A separated 1/4 mile long part of lake had about 200 of the llama. cranan - created ducks + The plain constructed, then undined again - perhaps 3 miles wide, 15 miles be- & near gard first reaching plain saw 50+ vicachas on a 45% slope of red boulders + yerta above shot gun- gress plain. Snow topped rocky peaks surrounded the plain. Occasional herd shep, few houses. About 3 miles beyond vicacha place came to 1 mile long lake with 500+ flamingoes. Tutupaca volcano ahead of us. Inquired + found we were on road to a mine beyond volcano & that road to Cacachara turn off many km. back. Turned back & lunchd at vicacha place. Became aware of diurnal mice among the rocks + near holes under head sized rocks on the grassy ground below foot of vicacha rocks. Shot 4 of these and saw a dozan in 15 minutes - probably 30 or mice peracto. Near the road. Small stream here. Continued on back looking for Cacachara road & finally found it, only about 1 mile out on plain from point where first reached from S.R. Road went off to west + was
