C. Koford 51 Journal Dpto. Puno, Peru. April 20, 1951 Heda. Pairumani, 24 mi. S. Ilave, 13000 ft. Trap line held 3 Phyllotis Phyllotis laninii n oridae, 3 Akodon bolivi- nearby (walking) ensis, 1 Nestorays Full moon, + clear cold air last night may have influenced result. Collected one Liolaemus & saw another on rocks of ridgeline. Returned to camp + prepared specimens. On late after- snap noon set 3 steel trap sets high in canyon where traps set (took up first set in canyon). April 21, 1951. Cold frosty morning but pleasant in sunshine. The trap line held 2 Akodon jalkiii (discarded 1), 1 Akodon amoenus, 3 large Phyllotis(?), 1 medium sized Phyllotis, and one wildecat (in a set put out last evening). Prepared specimens. Visited rock outcroppings about 1 mile east of road opposite ranch buildings and set 3 steel traps, 6 Schnyler's, and 4 Sherman, and 20 snap traps. Steele + Schnyler near large rocks + baited with mouse bodies and green scent. No rain again today - river lowest yet seen. April 22, 1951. Full moon; cold night. Clear morning. My Took water trap. line of 50+ traps held 2 large Phyllotis + Traps set in rocks about 3 miles east of ranch buildings held 7 mice (Phyllotis 5, Akodon 1, Nestorays 1). Discarded 2 young Phyllotis. Steel trap set in these rocks held wildcat - # 992. A lone turkey vulture circled low over trailer at 11:20 a.m. Skinned 2 wildcats & mice. No rain or heavy overcast. Very dry. April 23, 1951. Traps line remaining held 5 Phyllotis (all immature, dis- carded), 1 A. boliviensis (immature, discarded), + 1 Nestorays. About 8 a.m. drove 6 miles toward Ilave + looked back looking for turmarous but found none. Put up mice. Took up all traps. Clear warm day. About 3 p.m. departed with trailer
