Puno, Peru.
Hacienda Pairemoni, nr. Ilaque, Dpto.
Phyllostus darwini? Twelve snap traps + 2 steel traps about 1/2 mile up road held [illegible], Andinomyx?, 1 P. darwini (discarded). Saw 10 black-crowned night herons on cliff next to river-some had 2 long white streamers as head. Set 4 snap traps + 1 steel set near small cliff by river where saw tracks of small carnivore (skunk?). Returned to camp & put up mice. Took shot drive in afternoon and shot young mole such (same kind as on April 6) for camp meat (swimming or stream). Saw 2 black & white hawked like my # 943 flying over river. Reinspected traps - last this morning had 2 A. boliviensis rat 3 p.m., Rain & light snow in late afternoon.

To Puno & return, Dpto. Puno, Peru.
Warmer than usual night & bright sunny morning. The close 16 snap traps held 2 Akodon boliviensis (discarded). The string of 30 traps held Andinomyx?, 1 Neotomys, 3 Akodon jelskii (2 discarded), 1 Phyllostus darwini or similar, and 5 A. boliviensis (discarded). 4 traps near river held 1 A. boliviensis. 12 snap traps 1/2 mile up road held 1 P. darwini or similar (discarded). One skunk in trap near river and another on ledge of cliff 1/2 mile up road. About & about 9:30 a.m. departed for Puno. 30 miles to junction with Ilaque-Desaguadero road, then 40 to Puno. Good dirt road. Saw 2 tinamous alongside road in flat bunch grass area below. 6 miles toward Puno from mouth of river road. Arrived Puno at noon. Visited with Mrs. Stining. Sent letter. Shopped for food. No mail or telegram for us at Puno. Heavy rain commenced about 4 p.m. Departed for Pairemoni about 5 p.m. & arrived 8 p.m. Apparently had rained much at Pairemoni. This morning saw 6 ducks on river near crossing. This a.m. left skunks in ruin to cook off sent.
