To Camana, Peru.
Lizards (same as splitnose ?) on rock walls which held sand above road.
The road went inwards up steep grade (summit about km .817, pedom:4198), then down switchback to new valley at mouth of Pisco River. This valley little cultivated, but some cotton & olives. Many bushes, fresh lagoon near beach. Perhaps good area for collecting.
Small whitened island near mouth canyon. Reptiles. Over another rocky hump & down to small village where houses were squarish with flat roofs & limit of bundles of reeds on long leaves tied tied standing vertically and tied to crude log supports. No cultivation; perhaps a fishing village. Then much of road too narrow for passing. Finally descends switchbacks to a green valley about 1 mile across & much cultivated. River muddy & 300+ yds. wide but bridge modern (steel & concrete). Again reed houses or bamboo houses with flat tops. Many plastered with mud. Brief moment with man at garita who merely ask ed if I had papers. Saw many small lizards in this valley and a Butio (?) mostly white underneath & with some white on upper side wings.
At speedometer 4230 saw 2 condors (sand & rocks). At speedometer cross ed a clear stream about 15' wide, first clear stream seen. In this area beach was wide & sandy. Piles of shells (big clams?) showed activity of the few local people. Speedometer 4248, a wide lagoon inside a bar at edge of ocean. This lagoon continued toward Camana - much monkey ground. About 100 square miles of green cultivated area at Camana. Many orchards of bananas. Cotton fields. Many mud & reed houses. Some houses with pitched roof (A) with roof as well as side cover ed with mud. Gas at the town - able buildings & collectibles.
About 100 curious persons gathered to look at the trailer & climbed on various parts making it unpleasant for us. We left town after
