Callao, Peru.
Doch. The fishermen said they had had 2 porpoises earlier that
day. We went to the Callao Mercado & found fish section closed
but were told one whole porpoise still there (looked up for the
day). Prudice showed us nicely mounted sea birds and fish in
a room close to fishermen's pier. He had many large fish
from the Amazon - he had worked at a museum at Iquitos.
We returned to Lima. I returned to trailer. We packed up & loaded 5.
on Pan Am Panamericana. Lurin near Poocacane, ruins
(cold adobe buildings) first notable town. Passed Purisama, Chila,

sand & barren rocky hills. Lurin valley broadly cultivated.
At base of first long grade a lot of cholla-like cactus
was growing in rocky soil. We pulled off the road at about

ground but little hope of capture, as area had been flooded from
time to time by draining water from cotton field up the slope.
