c. Koford 18 Journal March 8, 1951 Lima, Peru electric mixers and flashlights available (no Hopalong Cassidy toys or television, however). Premium stores and excellent appearing gasoline and kerosene pressure lamps (Premium similar) common. Our stove + lamp (in shipped equipment) are "coal to Newcastle," all kinds of tools available. Canned foods high - mostly imports from USA or Chile or elsewhere. American evaporated milk as cheap as that made in Arequipa (5/2.30/can). March 9, 1951. To Callao via tranvia. Got letter from Milne Co. to aduana. Took this to Terminal Maritimo + got a baggage carrier who spoke some English to help me (Adan Calan surname). The "Henderson" had not started unloading. Visited the ship & landed aboard with the captain, & Mr. & Mrs. Warren Small of El Paso, passenger. Ship trim & clean. The mates seemed to be British but captain & vessel Norwegian. My jeep & trailer unloaded at 1 p.m. They had been stowed below decks on top of cargo + now were stilled. The local stevedore was rough & unskilled and made a big dent in front corner of trailer in hoisting it out of the hatch. Jeep trailer put in yard near customs house. Office closed at 1 p.m. so could not get paper work done today. Returned to Morny Hotel. March 10, 1951. By bus (5/.55) to Callao + met Adan at 8:30 a.m. Much pushing around to get signatures. I balked at paying 5/4.19 (about $7.00) for the unloading service, based on volume of my 2 cars, but could not talk the aduana out of
