C. Koford 15 Journal March 5, 1951 Lima, Peru certificate needed for my arms license. This was a Permanente - like place. They made out several cards, took my pulse, temperature, height, + weight, + had me undressed + on a table before they asked what I wanted. The doctor was a Harvard man + quickly fixed me up with a form certificate guaranteeing me to be free from lorry, intestinal parasites, + all sorts of other things, + vouching for my mental condition. Too late for for further business today. March 6, 1951. Picked up my pictures at the photo place and took everything to the Licencia de Armas department on Avenida Espana, frente de la Prefectura. They told me to go next Saturday to the "gabinete" in the Prefectura and have my fingerprint taken, then return to this office for final paperwork. Slept. Bought dirty fomentation + carbon tetrachloride in a "botica" without difficulty. In the afternoon went to Callao for 5 1/2 (10c) in taxi with several others. Went to Casa Milne (opens 3:30 p.m.) and gave them a copy of my bill of lading. They said that they would give me a letter to the aduana concerning my gear, to arrive Friday. The ammunition would need a special permit from the Ministerio de Gobierno. Many Franklin gulls - hundreds - at Callao waterfront. The older parts of the town had streets of rough stone bricks + streets were narrow + sidewalks narrow auto with little traffic in these parts. Returned to Lima
