To Chugui & back, Prov. Antof.
Drove to Chuqui, Calama, & return. Dined with M. Paul Cuen
& family at Chuqui.
November 6, 1952.
Ojos San Pedro (2500'), Prov. Antof.
Drove to Campo Perdido & back to Ojos; saw alces & vie-jeras.
November 7, 1952. Waited 7:30-9:30 in blind at pond for fla-mingoes but none came. Clear wind after 9 a.m. Shot 1 avocet ($16.80). Drove looking for birds & tinamous; saw none. Moved camp to 1 mile W. Ojos where 11 flamingoes.
November 8, 1952 moved trailer to Est. San Pedro.
Worked on packing for trip to Berkeley. Drove 36 mi. to Salar de Arizaro & there shot 2 Rheocryptes cinnamomeus. Returned to Est. San Pedro. Flamingoes in early breeding condition. Perhaps many at Ojos Arizaro. Salar Arizaro about 6x10 miles of white salt rough pampas with occasional pools water.
November 9, 1952
To Antofagasta
Completed packing. Left trailer at Est. San Pedro.
Drove to Chuqui for mail, Calama for departure papers, then to Antof., arriving 1 a.m. & staying at Hotel Mary - ancient & dirty, once probably considered luxurious.
November 10, 1952 Visited consul of U.S. Left car in Ford garage until return. Arranged with customs agent (Pejarro M.) to import my cars. Departed 9 p.m. on Panagra, El Beliceo, for Panama.
