C. Kotord 209 Journal Chile October 26, 1952 Tatio Geysers 14000'; Prov. Antof; green algal scum border running 10' wide stream. (6 morning 20/2g. yd. same place). October 27, 1952 Traps held 8 miles: 6 P. demurinii (disc), 1 alk. and. (disc.), 4 10thm Phylloitic (> 16-70 CBK). Left traps out. Followed Tinamotis tracks most of day. Clear, fair wind. October 28, 1952 Min. temp. -10°C. last night. Traps held 0 so taken up. Shot an A. fleuriostis (20 mm. testis) & a vis- carba (test. 30+ mm.) for pot. Drove to Cerro Tatio looking for Tinamotis. Saw 4 downy young rheas, perhaps 1½ K. each, which a man had taken alive on pampa near Cerro Tatio a few days ago. Near that site saw 3 rheas killed ed on after chasing it over pamps in car. Returned to Tatio Geysen camp. Clear with mod. wind today; not cold. October 29, 1952 Temps. -11°, +11°C. Made skeleton of rhea. Drove to Toconce to phone. Returned to geysen camp. We are leaving Antofagasta for Panama by plane Nov. 10 eve. Viscarra pet from Huaylenco did not return after trip to overley (noche) October 30, 1952. Temps. -9°, +12°C. Searched for Tinamotis nests. In afternoon drove to near Cerro Colorado, Plata Tatio, & back to camp looking for rheas & tinamous. Got dead rhea child from lost men. Viscarra gone. October 31, 1952 Temps. -11°, +11°C. Fog over geysen area in early morning. Cirrus clouds during day. Looked for tinamou & saw a trio. Warbled trail about 2 miles toward Cerro Tatio & camped in good tinaman area. Set 15 snap traps near rocks, tobs. Today took temperature of frogs & water in which they swim near geysers. Water
