October 18, 1952 Est. San Pedro, Prov. Antofagasta)
Walked on cam with local help; couldn't find trouble . Drew
to an indian settlement S W of Paniri where tomatoes &
crops ( guinea, alfalfa, wheat, corn ) being planted, with Nelson .
at a lake near Ojos de San Pedro (E. of the actual ojos) saw
4 flamingoes, 2 much paler than others, & 6+ geckos. A
fisherman from Chiqui took 7 rainbow about 12"
from stream about 3 km. below the ojos . at our longer
camp min. temp. -6 C. last night.

October 19, 1952 LINZOA, 1400; Prov. Antofagasta, Chile
On a truck returned to camps early this Sunday morning.
an Abrocoma or in a steel trap; kept alive. Min. temp. -6 C.
last night. Max. temp. yesterday & today +11 C. Walked to
Toconia Spr. to phone & found phone out of order. Collected
one egg from Tricnemis nest when bird off . The gasta
luminosa at San Pedro run by Miguel Urdengarin, &
before by his father (possible source old time info).
October 20, 1952 Min. temp. -3 C. Calm with 3/10
high cloud at 10 a.m. 15 traps set yesterday yielded
1 Ak. andinus, 3 Phylletis sublimis, 3 Phylletis dar-
winius, all in sandy area where rocks & telas dry. All
discarded. I set 3 steel traps for tucos & left other traps
max. temp. +12 C.
out . Caught 2 tucos by 5 p.m. Set 4 steel traps for Abrocoma.
October 21, 1952 Min. temp. -2 C. Wind at night and
3/10 overcast in morning, wind increasing in morning; loose
traps held 3 Ak. andinus, 3 Phylletis sublimis, 3 P. darwinii.
Steels held 1 P Abrocoma ( kept alive with 2 previous imm.
dead ). Took up all traps. Went to Tricnemis nest at 8:30+
