October 1, 1952 To Ojos de San Pedro, nr. Chuquicamata
With family & trailer drove to Est. San Pedro. Eric
Nilson, who has a gasoleta business there & facil-
ities for repairing trucks, was friendly & well sold
us gasoline & some supplies when needed. We drove
on to near Ojos de San Pedro & I set 29 traps near
Tola (moutly cedar- leafed kind to 1 tall; some to 7')
and rockies. Thick grass near stream but no sign
in it. Salty deposits at border of clear fast stream
and great growth water plants in stream. Nilson
said there were guanacos to west of the river at
Est. San Pedro. He recommended pompa near Putona
for ostriches, perdices, vicunas. Wind strong after 4 p.m.
and clear all day. Rudolph came by after a trip
to Ojos Acostan & said he saw tricomeres & vicunas.
October 2, 1952 E. of Est. San Pedro
The traps had 2 small Abades by 6 p.m. In
morning 12 more mice; of the 14, 7-6 small Abades,
1 Nesperdups,
5 medium Phyllostis, 1 large Phyllotis with rather
short tail, 1 Cligmodontia.
We departed Ojos
about 1 p.m. Camelids, Amos flavinectivie, many small
fawns, & other linds there. From the usual source of
the water (Ojos) we drove toward Tocanes. 6 miles
