September 22, 1952 Nr. Caritaya, Prov. Tarapaco, Chile
>> with large (20x30) faster + turgid sew. wes. streak
of snow on peaks about 15000'. About 40 miles to NE
some solidly snowcapped peaks.
September 23, 1952 Nothing in traps. Continued
in group
toward Zapiga. Sew + cardos near alta Cerrita.
a common large lizard at 11000 ft. & below seems
to be other than Iolaemus multiformis. Camped
near Tara River. Saw several small bats over green
vegetation stream in evening.
September 24, 1952 To Iquique, Prov. Tarapaco
Drove on to Iquique and camped about 10 km.
s. of town.
September 27, 1952 Iv. Iquique
In late afternoon departed for Chiguicamata &
camped near Humbertone in trailer.
September 28, 1952 To Quilagua, Prov. Antofagasta
Drove on to the Thorn-tree shallow quebrada of
Rio Loa & camped about 4 p.m. Looked for
lizards in evening but saw only 1. Swift clear stream.
September 29, 1952 To Chiguicamata, Prov. Antof.
Drove on to near Maria Clara & took road to
Chiguicamata, arriving late afternoon. Briefly
visited W.E Rudolph, chiefingenier. Camped nearby.
September 30, 1952 Chiguicamata
This Mr. Rudolph was able to buy groceries
at Chile Exploration Co. (Chiles) pulperia - many
items imported from U.S. and all much cheap-
