September 19, 1952 Capitoya, 12000', Dpto Tarapaca, CHILE = F. jacolata
Capitaya, an orellana said to be embalmed in a church.
a block + white gule, a. flavivestris + cristata on
the reservoir. Set 43 snap traps near rocks slope
near tala + clumps grass. Monnie group went back to
tall tala area & set 705 traps. Overcast today.
September 20, 1952 My traps held 3 akodon
bubyschii
and one, 2 long-furred Phyllotis (sermini,
?), &
1 pale Phyllotis
new hybrid (?)
all but 3 taken in the half
of traps set in canyon below dam. Monnie's
group took nothing. I saw Phygillus plebejus, Rhaco-
bænus, Silopsiagon, spin tails, Censoder, Upucuthia,
Patagora gigas, 1 Vultur, & other birds. Monnie's group
left for Santiago. I have the hepatitis (from which
Mary has just recovered after 3 weeks)-so taking it
easy easy. Clear + bright + windy today.
September 2 1/2, 1952 My traps held 7 Phyllotis
+ 1 ak. bubyschii
(specimen), (set) 3 Phy. in formalin
for Monnie. We must look road about 2 1/2 miles
& went 1/2 mile E. to stream entering the trough. Set
20 snap traps near rocks + tala.
September 22, 1952 Traps held 47950% of same
Phyllotis. Many pups. 12; other discarded. Water has taste
of minerals. We drove about 20 miles toward Canins:
& camped on gentle rocky + tala slope. Clear + windy
today. Mary set 10 traps near rocks + tala. Shot
3 of many piscocheros seen in a group of rocks
about 1 mile down on Capitaya side of divide. All 3 were-
