To Caritaya, 12000 ft.
We drove on to Caritaya. Road poor & narrow about
70 miles from road to area. Some shrubs at 7500 ft.,
much lower than in Chiquicamota area. At La Alta Camina
a fork descended to a cultivated bottom of a quebrada.
Tall folo of 3m+ spires (4' high) on slope at 12500 ft.
Another fork fork descends to a stream. Highest point 13300'
from which road descends to a 3 mile wide rocky
pampa with yellow-flowered tolas about 1' high &
occasional clumps cactus. A dam here & km. long
lake. Buildings with 1 family & 3 carabineros here.
