C. Koford 1952 Journal August 4, 1952 Nro Juliaca, Dpto. Puno Peru. Young grebes mostly in water plants nesting surf ace from bottom (max about 5' deep). Nesting islands of roots & grebes present. Lake about 1 km diameter in flat dry country. Cattle graze on water plants & local people fish with dip nets. No boats. August 6, 1952 3 mi SW Nro Juliaca, Dpto. Puno With Duffie truck moved trader to near Chilloguani (ca?), College of the 7th day adventists. Camped near rolling low hills & near barley fields being cut. Zonotrichia, Agriornis muscinus? (juvenile?), Symposelia, Nothura, Batis, Fales spavenin, Phelco- [illegible], a gray sparrow (?) gran with white spots in center each tail feather, Conilade, Juirnal zavia & Akador jefliis in stone & adobe walls, Stilozelyp. Much rocks but no lizards seen. August 7, 1952. Hunted 7:30 - 9 a.m. + shot 2 Cari & 4 Nothura (2 skins +1 skeleton). Sunrise 6 a.m. Clear & sunny but clouding up; overcast, windy, & cold in late afternoon. August 8, 1952. Friday. Hunted Nothura 7-9 a.m.; saw 2 & killed one. Overcast calm morning. Set 14 traps in thick grass on slope where many prairie dropseige shot one min. Caria & saw 5+ 7-9 a.m. Cold overcast p.m. August 9, 1952. Traps held 7 P. pistur, 3 A. balwinice. Put up 2? P.P. & demanded other mice. Shot 3 Nothura & saw 3 other 7:30 - 9:30 a.m. Clear early morning; mist frost; clouding up midday. Shot 3 Nothurs in after- noon. Set 10 snap traps at feet adobe wall.
