July 29, 1952 To Urobbambo Valley, Dpto. Cuzco, Peru con, bananas, potato-like plants). Maldonado hospit- able & had extra rooms in wooden houses. He thought poss- ibly pudies here in March-April. Beans had been taken, Aguti & porcupine not uncommon (not Dinornis). This place at km. 114 3/10 from Cuzco.
July 30, 1952 Took family to Maldonado. He had an aguti for me. Shot by a man named Mateo in banana grove near him. 116 1/2 in early morning. Bananas eaten by this animal. I saw groups 10+ green parrots with red heads & crimson. Walked to San Miguel Bridge (where P.S. crossed river); km. 118 1/2 about) in evening. Many small birds & large Turacos in this area.
July 31, 1952 To Cuzco, Dpto. Cuzco, Peru a young black parson with white face in a tree I had set. Saw a ?? Rupicola near house. Many sawa larky-tailed black mink-like animal nearby yesterday. Local people said this ate chickens & had a short face (a tayra?) and was not common. At 9 p.m. we took train for Cuzco, arriving 4 p.m.
August 1, 1952 To Juliaca, Dpto. Puno, Peru Took 7:30 a.m. train to Juliaca, arriving 4:30 p.m. No pro- gress had been made on car repair.
August 4, 1952 Mr. Juliaca Hiked 2 hours from Juliaca to a laguna Ocumpeste where there were giant coots, yellow billed teal, baoll- otas, grebes, & other water birds. Shot 5 Cento pelmas of (00+) them, & saw gray & white downy
