July 16, 1952 Oconeqe, 6 mi. N. Limbani, Dpto. Puno,
as almost every day for last four days. at Oconque shot a Centurus in yard of [illegible] Co. Stayed at Flores.
July 17, 1952 Collected birds at Oconque, much variety here perhaps 100 species. Shot 1 of group 3 Cyanolyca (?) in tree above lower large busher along trail near ruin, 4 hrs. below Oconque. There made a stringy squawk only, two squawking when one shot. In center of tree on branches not periphery. A mouse in 1 of 20 traps set in wet woods.
Of birds not collected, a large green backed red bellied trogon seen; several Oropendolas; large Tanager; many humming & warbler-sized birds. Atlapetes, a litten (?).
To Agualoni
July 18, 1952 Again shot good variety of birds. A small owl (1543) perched in open next to trail. A Trogon and small woodpecker also on busher near trail. Blue & yellow tanager (1594) in groups of several. We hiked to Agualoni in afternoon; shot a motmot (2, c.n.c.; quin to Santillana in Juliusa) near ruin, Camped Agualoni waiting for our stuff from B.P. & Oconque.
July 19, 1952. Put up specimens at Agualoni. Modesto hunted birds & saw-on Corio. Departed in evening for Juliusa.
To Juliaca, Dpto. Puno
July 20, 1952. About 3:30 a.m., near Azillo, I ran jeep off edge road & broke front axle. Left a truck in Azillo to take car & me to Juliaca.
July 24/1952 Lake Umayo & Tihaca, Dptor Puno with Duffie to Umayo (45 min. from Juliaca) and collected 5 Centropelma. Fewer nests than last visit hunt 3 nests seen. 50+ of these gulls on deep part of lake. Returned to Juliaca.
