C. Koford 182 Journal July 11, 1952 Dots. Puno, Peru Bella Pampa, 16 mi. N; 2 mi. E. Limbani; Trail good. Yuca patch 1/2 hr. upstream + pa canyon (called "senguli" in Tambopota) had been there. Then another 1/2 hr. upstream (good trail, rocky level) to a large yuca field showing much digging & tracks of pacas. No canyons showed up in evening, but often spotted paca (Cuniculus) Iba darla shot 3 by eyebarie (red), wounded on- on July 12.) other, & a local hunter shot another. Shot a "mama- coroco" (Ortalis ?) in a tree & saw others. Smallest of paca given to Mrs. Heller. Made shine & skeleton of 2. Meat excellent (young paca) but skinning difficult (soft trun birds). July 12, 1952. Expanded paca specimen. Went to same place in evening. Saw and wounded on paca but it escaped into ruins. Shot Ortalis (?) mentioned above. July 13, 1952. Took 2 large phyllostomus in shallow shalls save; 2 others escaped. Shot a kingfisher for specimen. July 14, 1952. Early morning watched at Tambopota yuca patch but no agoutis appeared. Shot a Campestris (?) woodpecker & saw another. Three large phyllostomus taken in tunnel 10 min. walk upstream from B.P. To Pacchuate July 15, 1952 One mouse taken some spot as previous one (155). skeleton kept. We packed, departed in early afternoon toward Oco-negue & camped near monkey bridge (1/2 hr. above house at Paschi Pacchuete (spell ?). Set 5 snap traps. July 16, 1952 To Oconoque a large Cuyongoz in trap. Shot a puffbird (specimen). This was perched very quietly in shade. Walked upstream. saw several Manacettes. Shot a coltoto near Quincho Rojo,
