Santo Domingo, 19 mi. N Limbari,
manager, Andres Dasso, had gone to college in U.S. Very
hospitable. Free room + board. He said that a bear had
been killed nearly recently, 3 tayupus (probably
devonups) shot in a mine tunnel about a year ago,
+ a tigrillo (ocelot ?) stopped + shot at Parapucuni
recently (I saw pelts + traps). The trail goes on 2
days hike to La Pampa but is closed beyond.
Tandara in corrugated tin roofs of most buildings.
Sev[illegible] dead bats with long ears seen in one house.
This mine on slope of jungle, most trees cut nearly.
They say there were more animals before the furnace,

old power plant about an hour down hill from S.D.
at Tungripata (we did not visit it). From Aguasani
to S.D. a 14 hour hike, carrying pack.
July 7, 1952 Dasso showed us around the mine area.
Now said to be no bats in tunnels. We departed 1 p.m.
& hiked to Bella Pampa and stayed at the house there,
by kindness of Dasso, with the local power plant man,
Albino Levine. Levine here 22 years. Remembered
Carriker who was here in 30's, born in 40's.
Collected 2 Carallia in power plant tunnel. Shot a
dark Capybar[illegible] on trail at night. Coyjos (brown
3 toed paca) said common here, especially where yucca
