June 18, 1952 3 mi. NE Arapa, Dpto. Puno
Bought 24" rainbow trout for breakfast.
Boges fished with nets by local people.
Traps held 2 like my 1045, 2 P. osilae, 6 L.
pictus. Put up those catalogued; discarded others.
June 19, 1952 To Hda. Calacala, 7 mi. SW of Tiroso
Navig. driven down toward Tiroso yesterday afternoon.
Today continued on to Hda. Calacala near Pucuta.
Much reed (totra) & marshy area between Tiroso
& turnoff to Pucuta (near Huascani), & shallow rocky
lake for 3 mi. along road toward Pucuta. Smell from
insected black & white headed grebe, & larger white
throated brom masked kind (both collected before) com-
mon on these lakes, & some Anas flavinucha + flagei.
Found Mr. & Mrs. Parker at Calacala & camped in
traditional house. 12 mi. from Huascani-Tiroso road
its turnoff to Calacala. Set 25 traps in thick grass
& near wet places or streams.
June 29, 1952 Traps held 4 A. ibiswini,
3 P. osilae, 1 L. pictus. A dog caught a Cavia
dark fur, in thick grass near a stream. This area
grayer than Umayo & with much thick grass but
almost no shrubs. Marsh hawks, sparrows-
loubers, caracaras, Gymnopelia, Zonotrichia, common
in yard near trees. Discarded mice not catalogued.
Saw 2 Cavia at fast rock wall in late afternoon. Took
up 5 traps & set 24 additional, 21 on dry rocky hill,
& where some grass & shrubs. Other traps had 4 A.
