Heda. Umayo, 15 mi. S. Juliaca, Peru
Shot Dymopelia, spin tail, Agelaeus, Piclis, near lake. Cruised on muddy lake in lakes in afternoon.
Shot one of 30+ Orca peru, about 100 grams like my
1473 sew, some on west islands in lake; tan egg
in one such nest. One sew with a downy gray & white
young, swimming in deep water. Have seen only the 2
birds of gulus collected tho a large flightless black one
said to be here. Flamingos seen on distant part of lake
(W. end). Lorburar also said to be here. Plenty of the
"logas," a good but small eating fish, in lake.
June 8, 1952. Prepared specimens in morning. Sar-
tellana visited us briefly. Set 39 traps on slope
near lake in afternoon, saw lunch, rocky grass.
June 9, 1952. Traps held 9 Phylletus (0 of serles
type), + 6 A. holicensis, + 1 Mus; I put up Mus & 1
A. holicensis; many put up a Phylletus. Others discarded.
Put up a pintail shot yesterday - common in lake, half
grazing young in flock. Flocks 30+ Ctilocelyps on gum
hills near lake. Set 25 traps near lake.
June 10, 1952. Traps held 8 A. holicensis, 2 Phylletis
(Forcelae, 22 mm. ox type). 10 traps set in a Phylletus
thicket on slope near lake caught 0. Discarded all.
Returned to Juliaca.
