3 mi. W. Atico, Dpto. Arequipa, PERU
Traps held 2 Marmosa, 20 Phyllostis, Ante (tiny) ots parts many mice + several partly eaten by other mammals.
Put up, Marmosa, 2 Phyllostis; discarded others. A pair oystercatcher on beach last evening.
We departed, drove a few miles S. of Atico,
& camped. Alto - sun. clear in morning.
May 21, 1952. Drove on S. a wide bottom green - leaved valley with logoon near Pescador Pt. Then another, with river with many fish traps, near Ocoña. Saw a small great white kingfish & a large seal near a stream near Ocoña (many trees + field crops).
Rocky + sandy rolling desert between green valley roads.
About 15 mi. before Camaná saw 4 condors over beach.
Many mounds discarded clam shells live + thousands of black sea birds (shenwate?) steaming for miles about 300 yds. offshore. Marshy ponds water of sand beach near Camaná. Very green, a river, bananas, mango, cotton, at Camaná (180 km. from Arequipa). Max barren area S. of C., the road going up to 4000' starting about 25 km. S. of C. We camped on rocky rampa when some mistano, no very wet cotton, + a good view of Pampuna + Misti, at 180 (from L.)

To Arequipa
We drove on to Arequipa & stayed with Mrs. Heller.
May 23, 1952 Shopped & arranged to visit Chucarapi.
Departed from Arequipa in afternoon & camped en road to Tocona.
To Chucarapi, 200; Tambo Valley
May 24, 1952. We drove to Hotel Chucarapi, a sugar cane ranch in Tambo Valley + were cordially reed by Fernando Lopez de Lemaña + nephews + invited to stay.
