March 24 Huayllarco, 13:300,
I walked along base of ridges looking for
tracks. Found tracks of 3 which had
roosted about 1 ft. apart on the lower
part of a rocky slope at the base of
the steepest part, then walked down
onto flat, then back uphill - about
200 yd. in all before I flushed them
(7:30 am). Near where they flushed
was track of single bird. It had
roosted in a similar position on
opposite side of ridge (east side),
then crossed rocky ridge, then down
onto flat. I followed it for perhaps
1/2 mile onto another ridge to the west.
Near top of this it joined 2 others
which had probably roosted near
this point as there were no tracks
ging far away, but right here snow
so melted that I couldn't see
exactly where they had roosted.
These 3 then stayed together and
seemed to feed. Finally I saw them,
already alarmed and giving a puk-puk
walking rapidly over ridge. I followed
and flushed them just over top. Coming
up the hill on this side were tracks of
another lone bird. They came to top,
