May 4, 1952 To Juliaca, Dpto. Puno, Peru
On lake near (before) Santa Lucia, coots building
nesting islands. Sunday.
May 5, 1952 Shopped, repaired tires, visited Duffin.
May 6, 1952. To nr. Sicuani, Dpto. Cuzco
Departed 8:30 a.m. from Juliaca & drove to La Raya, then
on to 25 miles past Sicuani & camped. The Cuzco
side of La Raya wetter, greener, than other side, & so
much agriculture (barley, other crops) that difficult
to get off road a 200 yds. from people.
May 7, 1952. To Paucartambo, Dpto. Cuzco
Departed 8:30 a.m. & drove to Urcos, then dugout &
dirt
lawn road to Paucartambo (80 km. off Cuzco road
on excellent one-way road), Then about 8 miles hi
Law P. to trees where found Pearson camped
at 10:500'. Camped with them. They had formerly camped
a few (10 ±) mile further down road at Law Creek,
tree
a branch off into a ridge above jungle. Road goes
70 km. beyond Paucartambo down into jungle (and
road Santa Yzabel).
May 8, 1952 To nr. Cuzco, Dpto. Cuzco
With Pearson, left & drove to Cuzco. Shopped.
Drove on a few miles toward Abancay & camped.
Near Paucartambo pump Pearson got an Odocoileus,
& Perulepe (not sure). I saw 50 ± Columba fasciata
& other birds.
May 9, 1952 To nr. Abancay, Dpto. Apurimac
With Pearson drove all day with frequent stops. Rod
