C. Koford 163 Journal April 22, 1952 Hwy/arr 18:30; Dto Arequipa Shot a [illegible], Agriornis, + from flycatcher away to be a barish hill near camp. Very few Diuca + Conoloxe in this area. Still 20+ sheep grazing today in this area. Burnt snap traps to 30 + set 5 near old stone coral. All overcast & a few flakes snow-in early afternoon. April 23, 1952. Clear morning. Watched Tinamotis nest 6:30 to 4 a.m. & saw bird "freeze" for an hour. Many watched nest in afternoon. Snap traps held 1 Herperomys + 1 A. [illegible]; put them up. Two juv red-brown spin-tail seen (shell % of size). April 24, 1952. Clear, light frost. Sunrise 6:10. Watched Tin- amotis nest 6:35 - 10 a.m. Bird sat off til 8:45 + look 45 min. late. Watched nest 2:30 - 4:30. Unusually calm & thus warm today until after 4 p.m.; then 2/10 cum nimb. & a few flakes snow. Snaptrope held min. 2 Herperomys; discarded. April 25, 1952. Clear, frosty. Watched Tin. nest 6:50 - 9:20am, a steel trap held 2 Dusigera, 1065-370 - 155-100, no emb. but black area in mt. hours, 2 R 3L. Snaptrope in Festuca + sand held 1 Herperomys, 1 P. sublimus min. (Discards). Saw a pair of teal with 5 - small flightless young. April 18 I saw a little - like gray hawk; white tail & black terminal band, fly to nest of stiles atop cliff 5. of lem. 134.7. April 26, 1952. Clear morning; 5 3/8 cumulus in afternoon. Watched tinamou nest in morning; resumed in afternoon. Juv. P. sulbinus in snaptrope + 15 traps stolen by Indian. Took up remaining traps. Sunset 5:40, rise 6:10. Shot 2 Aras crista of of with elongated crest, for pot. Yesterday shot a p. viscacha with 1" long embryos. April 27, 1952. Clear morning; 5/8 cumulus in late afternoon!
