C. Koford 158 Journal March 11, 1952 Huaylarco, 15000', Dpto. Arequipa, Peru birds. 7/10 cumulus by 3p.m. Wind all afternoon. Rain snow 5p.m.-dark TO near Tmcopaka, 14000' March 12, 1952. Fog in morning, persisting until after 8 a.m. watched vicunas 6:30-11a.m., intermittently. Took up traps; catch 2 P. sublimis (discussed). Drove to hm. 131 from Pisco & camped with bearings To Huaylarco, 15000 ft. March 13, 1952 Shot 4 guanidos on Rethprote. Frosty morning; clear last night. Returned to Huaylarco camp about 4p.m. March 14, 1952. Well light frost & clear, clouding up somewhat (to 5/10) during day. fair E. wind all day. Watched vicunas 8-1, 4-5. Shot an Orus cristata on Lake Pisco. Thrusurus in flocks 20+. To Arequipa, Peru March 15, 1952. Left trail at road camp & drove with fam- ily to Arequipa; the drive taking about 6 1/2 hrs. Descended thru fog cloud from about 13000 to 10000 ft. Have descended to Mrs. Heller. She said my box specimens shipped Mar. 10 by air. Compt in Arequipa; overcast but clear by midnight. March 16, 1952 Sunday. Visited with Mrs. Heller. Then to hotel. Visited the A. Williams & C. Nicholsons in afternoon. Cloudy afternoon but no rain. March 17, 1952 Shopped in Arequipa. Camped out March 18, 1952 Shopped in Arequipa. Departed about 2p.m. Drove to about hm. 906 & camped. Fog from 10-14000 ft. March 19, 1952 Frosty cold night. I came down with four & sacks. Returned to Huaylarco area & moved trailer to near Lake Pisco near hm. 133.8. Huaylarco, 15000 ft. March 20, 1952 Sick all day. Many watched vicunas & saw 2 copulations. Nail about 4p.m. March 21, 1952. Sick but recovering. Many drove to near
