C. Koford 1952 153 Journal February 2-4, 1952 Arequipa, Peru - (colored & white tipped) and smother (purced) deer (pudu?), 2 huiza peccary, 2 Dunwigs, pacas, agouties, atele, Tamandua, & others. Both shins milled skull of a manmots, skull of the taratura (a big rat, Dactyl --- ?), 2 huiza squirrel, Cavia, a few gray hauker, a few several mice, larkspur, roati. Aquire by 5/100 to ship my box of specimens by air. Sent some skel. & 2 for skulls by certified (5/10). February 5, 1952. Completed lunars & left about 2:30. Drove to about km. 91 & camped. Hard rain & rivers high road running with water from Arequipa to Salvios. I was lost car through (high water). February 6, 1952. To Huaylaco (5000) late. Arequipa Overcast but dry all night. Drove on to camp, barely getting across river near km. 91. Man at Solitaris said wildcat? that recently sent two puma (Corcillo) bitters to Aygupe to sell. Snow in evening. February 7, 1952. Temps. 0°, +8°C. Light snow on ground. Hail & snow after 2 p.m. Walked on thin repairs & other shoes. Nursing finger snacked bottom rocks. February 8, 1952. Patches snow on ground. Overcast. Watched vicuñas 8-12 M. Mary watched in afternoon. Hail & snow after 5 p.m. February 9, 1952 ½" snow on ground. Dec ¼" thick. Watched vicuña 7:30 - 12 . Mary watched 1:30-3:30. Temps. -3°C, +11°C. (in p.m. since yesterday a.m.). Clear early morning, slowly clouding. W. wind in afternoon. Rain at 4 p.m. February 10, 1952. Clean at 6 a.m., then clouding up rapidly. 0°C. Last night. Mary watched vicuñas in morning.
