Drawn back to camp at km. 137. Snow (1") in late afternoon. Not
so low as Jan. 6.
January 8, 1952. Max. & min. temps. Jan. 6 to this a.m., -1°, +11°C. Cirrus-status & cumulus 8a.m. A Dacica taken in snow trap yesterday by M.K. had testis 4 mm. Jan. 5 I saw Leo-
sits entering burrow again & again - nest building or
feeding young? About 1" snow in late evening.
January 9, 1952. Hunted Tinamou's km. 142 8-10:30a.m. x killed
a OT. Watched vicunas in afternoon. Overcast all day. Hard hail
about 11a.m. About 10 flamingos at road end of Lago Pucara. Min.
temps. last night + ½°C., max. yesterday + 13°C. Rain in evening.
January 10, 1952. Snow at night & on until 7 a.m., melting quickly.
Temps. 0°C, +10°C. Watched vicunas 8-12. Scouted sandstone
rocks 1 mile NW km. 140 but decided poor for trapping. Shot
(?, lgst. ov. 1½ mm.)
a Felio & saw 2 others. Overcast afternoon with hail about 3pm.
January 11, 1952. Temps. +1°, +11°C. Overcast. Watched vicunas
8-12m. Km. 139.2, Desertite pair (one red from arquipie, other not)
sitting +"diam. hole in 8" high vertical dirt bank near them. About
18 flamingos at road end of Lago Pucara. North of lake on small
clay stream saw a pair of teal. One ran upright, other, foll-
owed by 5 running downy chicks, ran with head low at back
of shoulder. Shot a goose, one of 5, m. Lgo. Puena.
January 12, 1952. Temps. +1°, +11°C. Cirrus status clouds then,
cumulus & rain 10a.m., hail 3:45, snow to 4:15,&
snow after dark. Hunted Tinamou's 8-12; no luck. Watched
vicunas 1 - 4p.m.
January 13, 1952. Little snow left in morning. Temps. +1, +10½°C.
