January 2, 1952 Huaylarcq 15000'; Opts. Arequipa
1 p.m. as if to storm but storm moved on to W. leaving sky nearly clear at 5 p.m. Watched vicun'a near km. 139 from
5:50 to dark (6:30). No precipitation during day for first time in
10(?) days.
January 3, 1952. Drove to near km. 142 ( 1/2 mile log. 335° T
from km. past) and hunted tinguamure 8-11a.m.; saw 3. Return-
ed to camp. No snow on ground today; 9/10 cumulo-stratulus.
Visited quell next photosed recently; now deserted. Shot 2 anas
on lake where 30° in flock. Watched vicun'a nr. km. 133
from 3:30-6:30 p.m. Sunset about 6:05 (my time). Only
precip. 1/2 hr. hail at midday.
January 4, 1952. Watched vicun'a 8-9:30 a.m. Hunted tingu-
amure 9:30-12 & got one at 15400'. Cumulus clouds
3/10+ much sunshine today. Put up tinguamur (4(345)). Hunted
nr. km. 136-no luck. Clear night.
January 5, 1952. Frost heavy. Hunted tinguamure nr. km. 142
6:20-1:30a.m. Killed one; saw 4. Watched vicun'a (2-3:304:30-5:30;
East wind + 2-6/10 cumulus clouds. Dry+ no precip. Clear night.

To nr. km. 100 from Arquipa, 13800'.
January 6, 1952 Departed 8 a.m. for km. 89-100 from Arequipa
to look for tinguamure. Hunted around 89 & 99 about 3 hrs. without
luck. Killed one Notbopasto near km. 100 (specimen). Heard Tinguamuri
nr. km. 100-102. Saw Agromis in rocks. Spot tails + streaked brush-
gray breast of Phrygilus (?) common, & Upucerchius seen. Hail for 1/2
hr. about 2 p.m. Camped near km. 99. Heard tinguamure in night.
January 7 (1952). No precip. or frost at night. Hunted 5a.m.
to 11:30 a.m., on & off, nr. km. 99-101; last saw no tinguamure.
