C. Koford 196 Journal December 30, 1951. Huaylaco 15000', Dpto. Arquipa ed up to km. 138 (but still a ground higher) dry 12 m. Moved camp to km. 137. River wide & brown; high- est yet. Hail + rain about 3 p.m. Got car stuck in ford near km. 139 but got out. Snow in evening. December 31, 1951. Only about 1" snow + melted rapidly. Clean-ed gas system of car of mud + water. Mary set 50 traps near km. 142 in rocks. Rain + hail during afternoon, on & off, + snowfall about 4 p.m. for 1 hr. January 1, 1952 at 6 a.m., 1/4 ground snow covered, overcast. We drove to near Mary's 45 traps (near km. 142). Caught 1 P. bolivianus (M.K. cat.). She set more traps - 70 total. I shot 2 baby + 1 adult viscacha in rocks. Return-ed to camp (km. 137). Snowing but stopped about 11 a.m. Watched minutas 11:30-4:15 p.m. when hail + snow became constant. Overcast all day. This morning shot 2 baby viscachas, 395 & 415 gms., + pregnant ? (emb. RH, 30m). January 2, 1952 Little snow on ground + 1/2 overcast at 6 a.m. Went to Mary's trapline. Traps held 4 P. bolivianus 1 P. deninicus (this in 10 traps set when little Anecita m. took up all 70 traps. but much yarita). I shot 5? viscachas with large tester + min. Tinamotis. Saw at least 4, per- haps 8-10 different Tinamotis. Wounded min. can- dor at carcase nr. km. 138 but it escaped me a foot. 9/10 overcast + fair wind dry 1 p.m. Mary shot a hummer with moss in bill (nesting mat? prob- ably) and caught a spine tail in snap trap. I flushed 2 Attogis from ishu on hill. Clouded up about
