Clear at 7 a.m. 3/10 cumu- lus lay 11 a.m. Shot Andes or Lake & saw pair of cacatua there at usual place. Watched viciunas 7-10 a.m. Drove to lem. 12, shot 2 urucaches, set 40 traps on mod. slope among No precip today. [illegible] lloa, lola, yarta, psenophyllum. Max temp. +14° C. December 9, 1951. Min. temp. -5½° C. Drove to lem. 12 & picked up traps. Catch 2 A. jelskii, 3 P. dominicci. Sat gen at El Salitares. Returned to camp. Dry - 20% humidity 11 a.m., + 4/10 ci. str. & cum. clouds. Little wind. 10+ flamingoes at road end of lake. Max temp. +14° C. No rain precip. December 10, 1951. Min. temp. -4° C. Clear at 7 a.m. but all overcast in afternoon & rain & snow in late afternoon. Watched viciunas & mapped in morning. Loud ratoniusse (Tinamotis) calling ca - co - ca - co (la-sse, la-sse) heard in early morning on grassy hill near camp (or heard one morning near Cocachera). Max temp. +13½° C. December 11, 1951. Min. temp. 0° C. 2" just snow on ground & all overcast in early morning. Caught young fox in trap. Watched viciunas 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. Snow in late afternoon. Max temp. +10° C. To nr. Imoto, Dto. Arequipa December 12, 1951. Min. temp. -1° C. 1" snow on ground but quickly melting. Packed & moved to near Inota & set 50 traps among rocks, yarta, Lurcio, pycno- phyllum. Warm at midday; brief shower in after- noon. Altimeter read 14650'. Viciunas & urucaches seen, & small herd llamas.
