November 18, 1951 Areguipa, Peru (plain)
2315, Huascar + wildrose, said Williams.
November 19, 1951. Shopping & passport license in town.

November 20, 1951. Shopping & passport license . At 6 p.m. depart-ed for Huaylaco, 90 miles from Areguipa, & arrived midnight.
Mary had caught 2 live chickadees during my absence. It had rained today, otherwise not since my departure.
November 21, 1951. Rested & loafed. Snow & hail in afternoon. Wind.
November 22, 1951 at 7 a.m., 3/10 cumulus. Water frozen. Watch-ed vicunas 8-10 a.m., 3:30-5:30 p.m. Strong west wind most of day & not over 3/10 cumulus. Set 40 snare traps among boulders, rock walls, grass clumps, on dry slopes. Shot large hawk atop telephone pole.
November 23, 1951. 1/10 cumulus at 7 a.m. Ice on water. Traps held 2 A. jelksii. Watched vicunas 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Strong W. wind in afternoon. Sunset about 6 pm.
November 24, 1951 Traps held 0. Saw a fox near camp 7a.m. Watched vicunas to W. of camp 9:20 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. Clear & dry with W. wind. Fairly hard freeze last night. Watched vi-cunas m. am. 130 4-5:30 p.m. Saw 2 avocets at lake m. am. 134. Some gulls sitting on east islands as if incubat-ing (heads black). No flamingoes or geese seen at lake. Shot a Muscariola, only bird common here. Saw flock 6+ Deuce (not speculifera) [Phygelus ?]
November 25, 1951. Traps held: A. jelksii (discarded). Took up all traps. Thermometer -18°C. (-2°F.) last night but surface frosted so perhaps not full-rest-ing. Strong ice on pond. Perhaps our coldest night here this month I judge. 1/10 cumulus clouds. Volcan Ulminas
