November 14, 1951 Huaylarc 15000 Dpto. Arequipa,
100t Amaz, 100t Netton, 20t Larus. Lessonia along shore,
& 10t sandpipers. Warm all day but 5/10 cloudy early p.m. Very
full moon. Strong winds in late afternoon.
November 15, 1951. Traps in rocks held 3 P. dominici (put up
1), 1 A. jibbii (discarded). Traps in grass held 0. 2/10 cirrus
clouds; sunny & warm. Many watched vicunas midday,
additional
1 in late afternoon. Set 10 additional traps in rocks near others.
No rain all day, cloudy & windy in late afternoon.
November 16, 1951. Cirrus clouds in early morning; 8/10 cumulus
by 10 a.m. Traps held 0 - took up all traps. Saw several
night herons at lake. Two gulls sitting on old root nest (?).
Some coots with young, swimming. Saw 2 condors near lake.
Watched vicunas 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. No rain.
November 17, 1951. Watched vicuna 6-10 a.m., with interrupt-
cans. Shot 1 & saw 10+ vicunillas among bundles of food bush
(franklins)
Bright warm day, fine clouds.
nr. Sun. 142: Prepared to leave for Arequipa tomorrow. ?
November 18, 1951 To Arequipa, Peru;
Left camp about 8:30 a.m. & drove to Arequipa.
at Laguna Salinas wide salt flats & no flamingoes
visible. Polypleia bushes along road about km.
45. Kooted stayed at hotel. Visited Mr. & Mrs. Arthur
Williams, 310 Moral Wms. recommended Scola. Olipa, John
Binnie, butch sheepman, as place to find out about repat-
mation of stock (on left, Km to Salinas, halfway). Many
perdizjes 15-20 km. from Puno road toward S.A. de
Esquilache on hill Quellaquello, on road to Chapi
near from Arequipa (Dr. Chabani (?), Arequipa
