November 11, 1951 Huaylarco, 52 mi. ENE Arcquipa, Pto.
Snow about 1 1/4" deep at dawn. Overcast. Alt. Snow
3/4 gone by 9 a.m. T he 30 traps held 5 A. jelskii, 3 P.
derivonii. I returned to examine mine & found 4 flycatchers shot. Many departed 9 a.m. to watch vicunas; returned noon. I
set 20 traps on vegetational hillsides among boulders, & among spring
grass in sandy flat. Nail rain in afternoon. No precip. after dark.
shot 3 teal (Nettson) at camp pond.
November 12, 1951. ^ New trap line held 0; old line 1 Chinchillula
& (M.K. catalog). Took up 10 old traps & reset among boulders &
shot: Quivera or
grants. Shot a T. leucourus (2 others near it). Alto - cumulus 9/10s in
morning, changing to 7/10 cumulus by 10 a.m. I watched pecuaras mr.
km. 138 from 10 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Nail for 1/2 hr. at midday.
November 13, 1951 Traps held 2 P. derivonii. No rain
last night. Fog until about 7:30 a.m., then sunny
until 8:30 when clouds from E. covered 8/10 sky. Of
[=Anas fluvirostris]
the Nettson shot yesterday: 9, lgst. overn 6 mm.; 07, test. 16;
07, total 34mm. long. Drove to El Selterio (7 1/2 to Amata
junction, 10 more to El S.), bought gas, then to Amata
(19 mi. from junction). No postoffice or 2 poor store at
Amata. Saw seel vicunas 5-10 miles from Amata. Shot
a goose near Amata, fox near Pety. Thunder, lightning.
Ordene of rain in camp area.
November 14, 1951. No rain at night. 7/10 cumus in
morning; warm & nearly calm. Traps held 1 P. derivonii.
Took up all traps. Set 30+ traps near boulders, gasta, tala
on N. facing slope at foot of lake, about (mile 5) of camp, 4-8
in sand among buncher stiff grass. Shot one (of 4) flamingo on
the lake. Saw 2 avocets (stith?), gray & white blackbacked gull, 100+ roost,
