October 31, 1951 To nr. Asillo 1300'; Dpto Puno Peru.
Overcast + occasional light rain in afternoon.
White medial warbler (grass, common), elmchols, flickers, etc.
November 1, 1951 To nr. Picora (est.) 12700'
Traps held 1 ? (small Phyllostis - like), 4 P. dawwini & osilos,
4 A. leduinensis, 1 A. jelaibii. Rain on & off all night and at
daybreak. That sparrow hawk + aplomado fallen! Drove to
Tropote for mail, then to 2 mi. NNW estacion Pucara. Set 30
traps on flat ground in grass or pocketed ground. Put up
specimens. Overcast but no rain. Saw two newt between Tropote
& camp, in grassy ditch alongside road, & flocks of near camp.
November 2, 1951.
To nr. Juliaca, Dpto. Puno
Traps held 6 A. leduinensis, 2 Herperonys, latter man
small hole burrowed in pocket earth. Clear overcast with
clocks man horizon. Put up specimens. Drove to about
15 miles from Juliaca & camped on punja. Heavy rain,
wind, lightning after dark.
November 3, 1951 Nr. Juliaca, Dpto. Puno
Drove to 2 1/2 miles from Juliaca & camped. Went to town
to stop a mail letters. Warm day, cloudy at times.
November 4, 1951. Sunday To Puno, Dpto. Puno
Two boys of Juliaca told us this were snakes, about 2'
long and color "plano", on rocky dry hill at edge of town.
Visited at Clinica Americana. Drove to Puno and camped on
hill above town. Set 30+ traps near rocks, rock walls, &
bunch grass. Hard rain, thunder, lightning at night. We were
told that usually no rain before Christmas here.
November 5 1951.. To nr. Vilque, Dpto. Puno
Traps held 1 P. dawwini + P. orles, 2 A. jelaibii, 1 A. leduinensis.
