C. Koford 128 Journal October 29, 1951 Ocanague, 7000 ±, Dpto. Puno, Peru. today. Near S.D. a screaming in night which local people said was large kind of pot. Otters in that area. Never saw a "tigre". Had been here 23 years, of + on. Said 3 sejea tinamous in high country. a tinamou + quail in S.D. region, + 2 white pecc- aries (white - lipped in herds of 100+ at tumia). From Ocanague trail went down to Arroya, about 3000', then up to S.D., over 5000'. About 6 hrs. fast hike from Ocanague to Bella Pampa, there 2½ to S.D. From Agualani, S.D. about 30 miles. Lodging at Luca Co. a little below Bella Pampa (no power house there). Most game down from S.D., but shot them in houses + tunnels. Nis nephew, Dasso, 25 yrs. old, left in charge there (Limeros but speaks good English). Apparently machine shops toll sorts equipment at S.D. (gold mine). We talked - that is he told me his hunting expedite - until midnight. October 21, 1951 To Limbani, Dpto. Puno, Peru. Wood + family up at 5 + off at 6 for Agualani. My traps held 2 rats (Mary K. catalog). Shot a short tailed mren. At 7:30 started for Agualani foot. Saw orpentolas + dark luis with white heads in water, ½ hour above Ocanague. People had told me large "conejos" there. Possum called "challa-challa" + a pest. A black jerosum at S. Domingo. Arrived sun floor gun pershote at Agualani dawnbreak.
