Journal Peru October 18, 1951 To nr. Segrario, 6000', Dpto. Puno, Bats along edges river in 104 23, a few small bats flying in evening & 1 caprimulgid (?) zeleberg insects from brush perch on cliff side at dusk. Saw 2 large Orygorya-like rats after dark. Rain in night. || At Limbari had visited Sr. Nuarocha, the m alcalde & hotel's store owner. He had many animal skin decorating his office. They included several skins of large size, 2-toed sloths, anteaters, possum, weasel (very dark - nearly black upper parts), squirrel. Most of them from the montana. Weasel said to be from Limbari. Warm at night, sweats, no blankets, enough cover. Anteater did not bother me. || Saw 2 kinds large laves, 1 with distal band on tail, other without, both gray. Found 2 snakes, ring-necked snake size but dark, on trail in day. October 19, 1951 To Ocanque, 7000', Dpto. Puno. Bats flying near cliff at dawn. Clara Lee Wood was to come up to Ocanque this day I had been told, so I liked back to there. Many crossbills. A yellow- woodpecker with red on head & back (centurus). Small bright green bird with red + yellow on head. Blue ten- ager. At Ocanque found Woods staying at Bella Pampa this night. Free board & lodging given me at the Inca Co. station. I set 20 snap traps. Drizz (7/1294) ly rain at night. I was tired. Shot hawk near Quiton. October 20, 1951. Traps held 2 brown large mice & 1 young possum. Put them up, & 2 bats (myotis?) taken yesterday.
