C. Koford 125 Journal October 17, 1951 7 mi. 550w Limbani, 13000', Dpto. Puno Overcast in morning but light at 5 a.m. My trap line held 3 P. dermini, 2 A. jelskii, 10 P. pictus. Mary's traps held: 2 P. dermini, 1 A. bolivianus. I added 4 meat- baited Schuyli's to my 30. Mary took up 15 of her traps + reset in boulders & bushes below road on damp slope. These 15 traps held 2 A. jelskii by 4 p.m. Overcast all day with fog about 500' overhead. Cinclus, Phrygil- us unicolor, Zonotrichia capensis common; flickers present. Shot a gray headed yellow finch (871291CK). October 18, 1951 To nr. Segario, 5000', Dpto. Puno Drove to Oquarani, Inca Co. warehouse 5 miles by road below Limbani, + left car there. Family stayed at trailer. At 9:30 a.m. departed down trail. Reached the tunnel at 10 a.m. About 2 hrs. down trail crossed sus- pension bridge, passes huts where some cultivation, & passed stone buildings at Ocanque. Hills mostly clear of trees, apparently because of repeated burning, & everything green. I hiked about 2 hrs. beyond a finca called Quiton & camped under overhang of (cliff below a suspension bridge (about 6th one). Trail good, after a notch cut in side of cliff, but footing rocky so hard on feet. Clouds all day, below Quiton saw palms, 40' high tree ferns, trees with horse-chestnut like leaves with hollow trunks with partial septa across. Oropendolas common. Saw one motmot. A black phebe or rosin in river. Dark birds with white head & upper
