Drove to Oquarani, Inca Co. warehouse 5 miles by
road below Limbani, + left car there. Family stayed
at trailer. At 9:30 a.m. departed down trail. Reached the
tunnel at 10 a.m. About 2 hrs. down trail crossed sus-
pension bridge, passes huts where some cultivation, &
passed stone buildings at Ocanque. Hills mostly
clear of trees, apparently because of repeated burning,
& everything green. I hiked about 2 hrs. beyond a
finca called Quiton & camped under overhang of
(cliff below a suspension bridge (about 6th one).
Trail good, after a notch cut in side of cliff, but
footing rocky so hard on feet. Clouds all day,
below Quiton saw palms, 40' high tree ferns, trees
with horse-chestnut like leaves with hollow trunks
with partial septa across. Oropendolas common.
Saw one motmot. A black phebe or rosin in
river. Dark birds with white head & upper
