M. Koford 1952 Vicugna 51 April 17 Huaylarco, 52 mi. ENE Arequipa, Peru - have been out of my sight as I drove down. Their I was interested in something out of my sight to east. The 3 juv. were prone & 1 col. prone near one juv. The 2 A, 1J # of road now crossed road and joined adult there. One of the adults is a yearling. They all continued away from road toward other group until about 300 yd. from road. Then 2 of 8 A, 7J ran all th way to then and ran after them back across road and at least 1/4 mi. # of road until out of my sight. Then he ran back all the way to his group. I drove out toward his group until I could see what he had been watching before. He now went 1/2 mi. to east north of his group to chase 22 or 27. 3 of adult & the 3 juv. in his group are prone. In a green draw 1/2 mi. beyond them there are alpacas grazing. I went back to road and measured tracks of running in sand. 2 alpacas # of road at 133. Group # of road at 134 1/2 - only could see 10 A, 7 J. ~~ End ~~
