Gymnogyps californianus
February 2, 1946 Arvin, Calif.
feeding somewhere further north. B. Fox
had told me of a carcass above Box
Springs on Brockridge Mtn. Perhaps
the vulture fed there. By 7:20 located
no more carcases, so drove to Arvin &
than Tejón Ranch. Saw two sheep camps
between Arvin & Tejón Ranch. These sheep
are brought in for lambing, Perry Sprouge
of Tejón Ranch told me. Usually there is
no big sheep movement from Cumming's
Valley until May or June. Perhaps these
sheep have furnished some carcase food.
Perry Sprouge said he had seen no vultures
in the last couple of years but describ-
ed no particular reason for this.
February 3, 1946 Fillmore, Calif.
Did Peyton told me that about 3 years ago
Michael (sp.) had packed a photographer
from the east, with a common name, up to
the big meadow below Whiteow Peak (on W.
side). He had put out carcases and
John Storey
got some fine pictures of vulture feeding.
About 3 weeks ago, Stotham (sp.) had
seen 70+ vultures at Torrey (canyon oppo-
site Piru) at a carcass.
