Gymnogyps californianus April 9, 1946 Hopper Canyon, Calif. together. At 12:03 an imm. soared over me - 12:05 it was 100±'over horse carcass. 12:10, 2 over white Cliff. 12:12, the 2 about 500'over horse, 1 with feet down. App- arently they passed up this food. At 12:20 the pair was still in the pothole DD facing in, & at 12:40 the same. I saw 1 land atop Condr Cliff about ¼ mile S. of the cliff corner. There was much flopping - it appear- ed as if there may have been a mounting followed by mating display (long distance & heat waves in- terfered). Two left that spot abruptly at 12:45. 12:48 one in the pothole displayed for about a minute. Both went in the hole. Much leads together. 12:50, both fac- ing out. (next failed - this way live the #12 best again) 12:52, one off, & 12:53 the other. They skimmed past #12 nest & over North Point & glided down over North Slope. 1:08 I saw 2 circling together 500±'above Arundell Ridge. 2:15, one circling 100±'above the horse carcass. 2:18 two others from N. joined there at 200±'. 2:21, one of the 3, an adult with ragged tail & secondaries & #5 left primary short (right missing), circled above me briefly. Other two disappeared. Sky clear; breeze faint or absent; 60° F. 3:05, 2 ad. ults & an imm. soared E. over the Rim near me. One circled (2 circles, 15 sec. each). They rose over North Point area. One adult had feet down. Imm. had a slot in outer secondaries. Adult secondaries ragged. 3:07, 4 now - 1 glided toward Arundell Ridge
