The earliest egg record (April 1854) as recorded in the Ollis, was of an egg from Santa Monica Mtns. The locality Tularcitos is near the junction of highway 101 with Ventura-LA County line. This spot was the collector headquarters. WLC has a letter in his files regarding this egg. Another egg was taken from Cincial Cay on the west me B. of it near Lochuso Point near the coast in S. Ventura Co.. A little girl collected this as it is said. Chambers believes cardors have left Santa Monica Mtns. area because the food is gone (me too - also too "civilized""). The birds here are just visitors from the "pine" country. Chambers had not heard of Turesdole's dislike of the Cooper Club because Chambers pronounced 2 eggs taken by Turesdole as phony (because of lack of rough texture, WLC said - there was much egg faking going on at that time too). Those eggs were purchased by Thayer & then sent to WLC - the latter still believes they were not cardor eggs. Chambers said these eggs were now at Harvard (white in color).
