Gymnogyps californianus
April 2, 1976 Topanga, Calif.
Bird, he said, stayed about for several days.
Mr. Appleton of Simi also saw cardors in this
region not long ago, Chambers said. The earliest
egg record (April 1854) as recorded in the Ollis,
was of an egg from Santa Monica Mtns. The
locality Tularcitos is near the junction of
highway 101 with Ventura-LA County line.
This spot was the collector headquarters.
WLC has a letter in his files regarding this
egg. Another egg was taken from Cincial Cay
on the west me B. of it near Lochuso Point near
the coast in S. Ventura Co.. A little girl collected
this as it is said. Chambers believes cardors
have left Santa Monica Mtns. area because
the food is gone (me too - also too "civilized"").
The birds here are just visitors from the
"pine" country. Chambers had not heard of
Turesdole's dislike of the Cooper Club because
Chambers pronounced 2 eggs taken by Turesdole
as phony (because of lack of rough texture,
WLC said - there was much egg faking going

believes they were not cardor eggs. Chambers
said these eggs were now at Harvard (white
in color). WLC said he would take me to the
