29 NOV ROUTE 5 Proceeded to milepost 26.5. A bajada and 2 washes leading back to canyons. Dominated by Larrea, but containing also Hymenoclea, Atriplex, Opuntia acanthocarpa and basilaris, Ambrosia dumosa and confertifolia; set 100 traps in two lines one line of 40 shermanns up the N most wash very rocky into a narrow alluvial canyon, many holes in boulders. One line of 60, 3-traps per station, 20 stations, 2 shermanns and a museum special at each. (All stations 20m apart, straight lines. Bait: oats coated with peanut butter and bacon fat.) Line of 60 goes up bajada. Elevation 1700ft, soil sandy-gravelly-stoney. Then proceeded to milepost 30.1. This is a bajada with small washes dissecting it. gravelly, and desert pavement, some stony patches, some sand in the washes. (wyvenolytra+confertifolia) Vegetation: Larrea - Atriplex, Ambrosia dumosa Eriogonum inflatum, Opuntia echinoacarpa+basilaris set 50 traps, alternating 2 and 3 trap stations 20 meters apart for 20 stations. Two shermanns at each station, a museum special added at alternate stations. Same bait as before. Line goes E across bajada, crossing small washes. Also present: echinoacactus, Hymenoclea.
