72 28 Nov Route 5 Milepost 24 continued which has been eaten by coyotes. Coyote droppings full of beans seen. Mule Bighorn sign along stream and above stream in canyon, including 3 small bedding grounds. Followed spring until it quit, then another 1/4 mile. Then hiked over hill N of spring, and down the next canyon which had a similar but smaller spring, less sheep sign, Epipactis present. Returned to Scotty's Castle. 29 Nov Route 5 Milepost 24 Trap success: Bojada Perognacus erimitus 8 (2snap) 8/50 (#474,475) Wash 2 P.cinitus released 2/50 Total 10/100 all P.cinitus Picked up all traps by 1145 Hiked from here to Spring # 238 "Forgotten Creek" which can be seen from the road as two dense patches of tall grasses and a couple of straggly willows. This is a stream, generally less than 2 cms deep with a couple of small pools approx 30cm diameter and 10 cm deep. Some, but not much Bighorn sign. Much coyote scat. Stream is about 200 meters long by 30 cm across (average). Road sounds are quite audible from this system. Vegetation: 2 patches of Pharequitites and Distidetes, Solidego, Surdo, Prosopis glandulosa, Percepheleum; Soil: alluvion, conglomerate with dried salts.
