19 Nov Grapevine Canyon 1 mi E of Scotty's Castle continued to intersection with wash. Picked up Margaret who was doing a vegetation transect 3.7 miles E of Scotty's castle. Vegetation in dry area immediately E of Riparian: Atriplex confertifolia dense along wash, Atriplex hymenelytra uncommon, Atriplex (2-winged) common on slopes, harra conspicuous, Hyuenoclea common, Lycium. Margaret did a transect on one slope. Geology: Volcanic, gravel and boulders, very rocky in small canyon. Weather: partly cloudy, light breeze, a little above freezing Almost full or full moon. Camped indoors at Scotty's Castle. 20 NOV. 1 mile E of Scotty's Castle, Grapevine Canyon, 3100ft Trap success: (5 sets had all traps filled, 2 had none) Riparian area, 60 traps n % specimens# Paronyserius ereuicus 21 (75wap) P. crinitus 9 (25wap) Nadtona lepida 4 (50wap) 456, 457 Total 34/60 No Reiterrodothoreeps. Also caught the tail of a P. ereuicus in a snap trap. Only bird seen was a Rocky Crowned Kinglet. Dry area, 50 traps n % Specimens# P. crinitus (1snap) 4 438-440 Ammospermophilus 2 441, 442 Total 6/50 Both Ammos in same set. Saw a Badger withdraw into a hole. Considerable digging in the area.
