19 NOV Klees Spring along Titus Canyon Rd Birds: Rock Wren, Black-throated Sparrow, Pinion Jays, Raven Titus Canyon 3.1 mi W of KLEESpring 2000ft Trap Success: Peromyscus crinitus: 5 (3 in snaps) That's all! 5/60 Margaret heard 3 crashes that sounded like Bighorn rams fighting. She also made a plant list. Picked up all traps 1100 hrs. Proceeded to north (or aw?) of canyon, had lunch in parking lot. Hiked up canyon about 1/2 mile. I heard a crash that sounded like rams fighting. What were these sounds, really? Proceeded to Scotty's Castle to square away our housing, then E along Grapevine Canyon road to a small riparian area 1 mile E of Scotty's Castle, 3100ft. Vegetation: Salix, Phragmites, Baccharis, and much Vitis tangling everything. There had been a burn at this area some years ago - some charred stumps, many trees were cut down. Set 60 traps in 3-trap stations, 15-20 meters apart, 2 shermans, 1 Museum Special, all baited with peanut butter - baconfest coated oats. Also set 50 traps, alternating 2 and 3 trap stations (2 shermans (Museum Special) same bait, going E from big rock at base of hill, E of riparian area, following base of hill eastward, then ging up small rocky canyon until it started to get rough, then back down canyon
